When a project is subject to review under Section 7 Section 7
Section 7 Consultation The Endangered Species Act (ESA) directs all Federal agencies to work to conserve endangered and threatened species and to use their authorities to further the purposes of the Act. Section 7 of the Act, called "Interagency Cooperation," is the mechanism by which Federal agencies ensure the actions they take, including those they fund or authorize, do not jeopardize the existence of any listed species.

of the Endangered Species Act, conservation measures are actions included in the project description that the federal agency or the applicant commits to implementing to avoid or minimize impacts to federally threatened or endangered species from their actions. Conservation measures demonstrate the agency鈥檚 commitment to imperiled species conservation and have the potential to expedite project review under the Endangered Species Act by eliminating or decreasing adverse impacts that would otherwise result from project implementation.

This is a list of potential conservation measures, compiled by the Service's Asheville Ecological Services Field Office, one may want to incorporate into a project. This list is not exhaustive nor prescriptive, but simply provides suggestions and examples 鈥 the decision to incorporate conservation measures, and what conservation measures to incorporate, is the discretion of the federal agency authorizing, funding, or implementing the project under review.
