The bet365下载ios (Service) works to protect and restore fish, wildlife and their habitats that have been threatened or injured by oil discharges, releases of hazardous substances, or other emerging contaminants of concern. New Jersey is the most densely populated state and has an extensive industrial history, which emphasizes the need for this critical work. At the New Jersey Field Office (NJFO), our Environmental Response and Restoration Program biologists accomplish this by participating in emergency response and spill preparedness, conducting natural resource damage assessments, restoring natural resources and habitats to compensate for injuries that occurred as a result of the release of oil or hazardous substances, and providing technical assistance on environmental contaminant issues to other Service programs.

Natural Resource Damage Assessment and Restoration

The Service, along with other federal, state, and tribal agencies, acts as a trustee for natural resources such as migratory birds, certain diadromous fish (species that spend part of their lives in the ocean and part of their lives in rivers), threatened and endangered species, as well as the habitats that support these species. When these resources are impacted by the release of oil or another hazardous substance, the trustees determine the extent of these injuries through scientific assessment techniques and their value through economic analyses by conducting a Natural Resource Damage Assessment and Restoration (NRDAR). Through this legal process, the trustees recover damages from responsible parties and implement habitat and ecosystem restoration actions that compensate the public for the lost resources and the services that they provide. At the NJFO, we have biologists with expertise in eco-toxicology, fish and wildlife, and habitat restoration who provide technical oversight during the entirety of the NRDAR process. We have many ongoing NRDAR cases in varying phases, ranging from highly complex injury assessment to watershed-wide restoration efforts. To learn more about the cases and projects that we work on, explore the map and dashboard linked below.
