About David Viker
David Viker is a 33-year veteran of the Service, starting his career as a volunteer, then intern, then entry-level employee. David has served in three programs of the Service for extended periods and served in an acting capacity for two months or more with the Regional Director’s Office, Office of Communications, and Wildlife and Sport Fish Restoration. David worked on six field stations in five states before moving to the Atlanta Regional Office. Along the way, David earned a federal law enforcement commission, obtained a fire management wildfire “red card,” operated an array of heavy equipment pieces to manage habitat, and was actively involved in land acquisition.
David has served as an Assistant Regional Director/Regional Chief of the Migratory Bird Program (2005-2011), National Wildlife Refuge System (2011-2022), Strategic Employee and Organizational Development (2022-2025), and once again as Assistant Regional Director of the Migratory Bird Program (2025-).
Outside of Service work, David—and his better half of 29 years, Mary—have been volunteer youth sports coaches for more than 40 teams in basketball, baseball, softball, track and field, and soccer. His favorite times are spent with Mary, their four children and two grandkids, fishing, hiking, hunting, traveling, raising chickens, splitting firewood, and enjoying campfires.
