About Joseph Sands

Originally from Days Creek, Oregon, Joe Sands serves as a wildlife biologist for the Pacific Region of the bet365下载ios in Portland, Oregon. Joe is responsible for working on a variety of waterfowl issues in the Region. Joe has also served as the Game Bird Programs Manager for the New Mexico Department of Game and Fish, coordinating the Department's statewide migratory game bird, wild turkey, resident upland game birds and resident small game management programs. Joe earned an Honors B.S. in Fisheries in Wildlife Science from Oregon State University (2004) and a Master鈥檚 of Science degree in Range and Wildlife Management from Texas A&M University-Kingsville (2007). His thesis focused on the impacts of invasive exotic grasses on northern bobwhite habitat use in south Texas. He continued at Texas A&M University-Kingsville earning a Ph.D. in Wildlife Science (2010). His dissertation investigated the impacts of recreational harvest on northern bobwhite population dynamics. Prior to joining New Mexico Department of Game and Fish, Joe worked as a Research Associate for the Caesar Kleberg Wildlife Research Institute in Kingsville, Texas. Joe is the author/co-author of 15 peer-reviewed scientific articles and 9 outreach articles. Joe is also co-editor of the book, Wildlife Science: Connecting Research with Management, and serves as an Associate Editor for the Wildlife Society Bulletin. In his spare time, Joe enjoys hunting waterfowl and upland game birds, fishing, and spending time with his wife, Jessica, their three sons (Morgan, Jackson, and Colter), and their two dogs.
