From Seeds to Trees: Earth Day Blooms at Wolf Creek

Wolf Creek National Fish Hatchery celebrated Earth Day with 475 attendees enjoying a lively and educational community event that brought together families, conservationists, and nature lovers. The event featured a variety of engaging booths, hands-on activities, and even free tree giveaways to encourage environmental stewardship.

Kids and adults alike enjoyed interactive exhibits from local and state organizations. The Liberty Nature Center drew crowds with its display of rehabilitated bird species, offering a rare close-up look at some of Kentucky鈥檚 native wildlife. The Kentucky Department of Fish & Wildlife鈥檚 鈥淎nimals of Kentucky鈥 exhibit gave visitors a chance to learn about the region鈥檚 biodiversity with several furs, skulls, etc. displayed.

Visitors explored the aquatic world through the Division of Water鈥檚 macroinvertebrate booth, where they got a firsthand look at the tiny creatures that serve as indicators of water quality right here in Hatchery Creek! Blow-up archery, temporary tattoos, and live demonstrations kept the fun going throughout the day.

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers promoted water safety, while the Kentucky Division of Air Quality and Division of Waste Management shared tips on protecting our environment. The UK Extension Office provided sustainable living resources, and artisan Sue Duncan captivated guests with live demonstrations of spinning Angora rabbit fur into fiber.

With sunshine, smiles, and a strong focus on protecting our natural world, the Earth Day celebration at Wolf Creek National Fish Hatchery was a meaningful and memorable experience for all who attended. A special thanks to the Friends of Wolf Creek National Fish Hatchery, Inc. who supplied lunch and giveaways!
